AIDS-related dementia: Pathology

Widespread moderate demyelination in ADC (left), as revealed by pale blue toluidine staining. This white matter pallor is one of the cardinal features of HIV encephalopathy. Of note, the demyelination is of lesser magnitude than in PML (right).
